Contemporary art is artwork produced in the present day and in relatively recent history, from mid to late in the 20th century. It innovates and challenges historical traditions and methods although is often still influenced by and incorporates past practices and subjects.

Contemporary art embraces all types, styles, disciplines, cultures and influences. Definitions of the type and style of artwork often get blurred and new and revolutionary art is produced. Mediums are innovatory and artists use new techniques and concepts in the process of creating artwork that resonates with the modern world.
